While the evaporator simmers

Eight tabs open on the shack laptop
while the sap boils down

Boiling sap is a slow job, and Ovide spends the long hours beside the evaporator with a browser tab open on the shack bench. His eight free games swing from a quiet farm and a Stone Age tribe to a football club, two pirate fleets and a stick-figure comedy. Each one opens on its official site without an installer, and none asks for anything before you begin.

My Free Farm

Farming sim of the old school · Farmsteads, towns & zoos

A long-running farming game with no frills: you sow the fields, raise the animals and sell each harvest. Its plain look hides a deep economy, and the real pleasure lies in planning your planting cycles so the barn is never empty and nothing rots in the ground. It suits anyone who, like a sugar-maker, likes planning a season ahead.

Good for
Players who value depth over polish.

Stonies key artFarmsteads, towns & zoos

Stonies

Stone Age camp to grow into a village

Your Stone Age tribe needs jobs: send them out gathering, set them crafting and researching, and the camp spreads wider as they learn. Survival chores give every visit a purpose, and the slow technology climb makes each new tool feel well earned.

  • Around 20 minutes
  • Desktop browser; mobile app also available
Who it suits & how Ovide would start

Good for: Builders who enjoy a hardy, survival tone.

Your first session
  1. Hand every member of the tribe a task straight away.
  2. Research gathering tools first; most other progress waits on them.
  3. Grow the camp only when supplies can keep pace.

Hattrick key artSport & club management

Hattrick

Football management sim

A veteran football management game whose heart is the weekly training focus: choose one skill and the whole squad works on it. Players change hands on a market every manager shares, and before each match you set the tactics plus orders for individual players.

  • A handful of visits each week
  • Desktop browser; mobile app also available
Who it suits & how Ovide would start

Good for: Patient managers who enjoy a living transfer market.

Your first session
  1. Choose a training focus and give it weeks, not days, to pay off.
  2. Watch the transfer market a while before placing your first bid.
  3. Set individual orders before every match, not just the formation.

Tribal Wars 2 key artStrategy & warfare

Tribal Wars 2

Conquest among medieval villages

Follow-up to a classic village-conquest game. You grow a medieval village, raise troops and seize land from the neighbours, while tribes plan joint attacks across worlds that last for months. Good organisation tends to beat raw size.

  • Daily visits, plus planning sessions
  • Desktop browser; mobile app also available
Who it suits & how Ovide would start

Good for: Competitive types who will stay with one world for months.

Your first session
  1. Strengthen the village economy before training an army.
  2. Join an active tribe early in the world.
  3. Look at who lives nearby before choosing a target.

Battle Pirates key artStrategy & warfare

Battle Pirates

Naval warfare and fleet design

Here the warship is yours to design: choose a hull, bolt on weapons, armour and components, and send the fleet over an ocean map against other players' bases. At home, a floating base keeps raiders out only with turrets and repair docks.

  • Half an hour or so
  • Desktop browser
Who it suits & how Ovide would start

Good for: Players who love tinkering with ship loadouts.

Your first session
  1. Learn what each hull and component does before you build.
  2. Defend the floating base with turrets before sailing far.
  3. Pick early targets your fleet can actually beat.

Seafight key artAction & arcade play

Seafight

Pirate fleets on the high seas

A pirate naval adventure: take the wheel of your own ship, swap broadsides on open water and dig up buried treasure. Upgrades turn a modest vessel into something fearsome as you rise among the buccaneers of a busy online sea.

  • 20 to 40 minutes
  • Desktop browser

Kingdom of Loathing key artRole-play & quests

Kingdom of Loathing

Stick-figure role-play played for laughs

A cult comedy role-play game drawn entirely in stick figures, with six joke classes, among them the Seal Clubber and the Accordion Thief. The turn-based fights and thousands of absurd items sit on systems deep enough that players still study them.

  • Any length, from one sip to a whole boil
  • Desktop browser
Who it suits & how Ovide would start

Good for: Anyone who would rather laugh than be dazzled.

Your first session
  1. Read all six class descriptions and pick the one that makes you laugh.
  2. Fight turn by turn and read every item text.
  3. Keep a few odd items; many turn out useful later.

Gladiatus key artRole-play & quests

Gladiatus

Gladiator role-play in ancient Rome

Ancient Rome, one gladiator and a clock: your fighter heads out on timed expeditions that run in real time and come home carrying gear and gold. Arena bouts with rival players settle themselves, while dungeons guard the scarcer equipment.

  • Short bursts, several times between chores
  • Desktop browser
Who it suits & how Ovide would start

Good for: Players who want brief daily visits rather than long sessions.

Your first session
  1. Send your gladiator on an expedition before you log off.
  2. Check the player market before buying new gear.

Price of all eight at the shack: free to play; optional in-game purchases.

01

Free from the first drip of sap

None of the eight charges at the door or later on, season after season; the fields, matches, voyages and quests are all part of the free version.

The studios make their living from optional extras such as premium currency, outfits or a quicker timer. Lots of players ignore those entirely, and a family sharing the shack laptop can usually block purchases from the studio's own account page.

02

The first evening on the bench

The buttons below open each official game site in another tab; expect a brief registration there before the farm, club, ship or tribe is yours.

Most open with a guided tutorial. Finish it: it covers controls and resources far quicker than wandering about on your own.

03

Games that keep boiling while you are out

My Free Farm, Stonies, Tribal Wars 2, Hattrick and Gladiatus all carry on without you: crops ripen, chores finish, troops march, the season moves on and expeditions return. Checking in before chores and again at dusk usually keeps them on track.

Battle Pirates and Seafight reward sitting down for a proper battle, and Kingdom of Loathing waits patiently for your next turn, so keep those for an evening with time to spare.

04

Keeping your sign-ins safe

Logins belong to the separate studios, so enter your details on that genuine address alone, keep a different password for each title and accept two-step verification whenever it is on offer.

Your password is never needed by a real help desk. A stranger who trades premium currency for logins wants to take over your account; do not reply.

Why these eight made the bench

  • Every one runs in a desktop browser tab, so the shack laptop needs nothing new before the first harvest, match or voyage.
  • Joining is free, and nothing in the main game is locked away from someone who never opens the shop.
  • The pace runs from a farm you tend between chores to fleet battles that want your whole attention, so the list fits a sleepy evening or a restless one.
  • Each is a long-running title that its studio still keeps online, so the servers have other players on them.

No. All eight run in a desktop browser. Hattrick, Tribal Wars 2 and Stonies can also be played through an official phone app; My Free Farm, Battle Pirates, Seafight, Kingdom of Loathing and Gladiatus are desktop browser games.

No. Starting is free in all eight and the core game never charges; any shop purchase is your own choice.

No. Separate independent studios build and host them, and this page only points the way to their official sites.

No. Eight games means eight separate sign-ups, because each studio keeps its own accounts.

My Free Farm, Stonies, Tribal Wars 2, Hattrick and Gladiatus keep moving when you are offline. Kingdom of Loathing simply waits for your next turn.

My Free Farm, with its fields and animals, or Stonies if you would like a touch of survival. Battle Pirates and Seafight are the noisiest of the eight.

Yes. Tribal Wars 2 has tribes, Hattrick shares one transfer market among all its managers, Gladiatus has arena duels and a player market, and the two pirate games fill their seas with rival captains.
